Whole Foods to Subsume Hillcrest USPS Operations

August 3, 2026
The Whole Foods located in Hillcrest is slated to take over postal operations when the Post Office on Cleveland Avenue closes down next year.

After the United States Post Office (USPS) announced the latest round of closures, including two in San Diego, Amazon’s Whole Foods announced that their Hillcrest location would become the new hub for postal needs in the neighborhood.

“It’s centrally located, so it’s super convenient. They have parking and everything,” suggested local resident Norman Mailer. “I already pick up my Amazon packages from there, so it makes sense.”

Despite years of reducing their dependence on USPS, Amazon recently reached a deal with the government agency to keep a certain amount of package volume with USPS instead of Amazon’s private courier services. This addition of USPS services to Whole Foods, a company owned by Amazon, is part of the same deal.

“Millions of Americans visit Whole Foods to retrieve their Amazon deliveries. This partnership expanding our services will advance Whole Foods’ mission of becoming a one-stop shop for our customers,” read an Amazon press release from last week.

Norman Mailer leaned on the pickup counter. “I already rely heavily on Amazon. My clothes and home consumables are mostly Amazon Basics, I use Amazon One Medical to get all my prescriptions through Amazon Pharmacy, so this is perfect for people like me!”

When asked about the USPS’ plans to continue serving the community of Barrio Logan, the disadvantaged and majority-Hispanic community where they are closing another post office, Postmaster General David Steiner simply said “Good luck.”

FOR RENT: Balcony of quiet uptown apartment ($250/mo)

Unsure of exact square footage but will fit a twin mattress when my dryer rack is put away. You get bathroom access when I am home but when I am not, the balcony does not hang over a spot anyone should be standing. Subletting is prohibited in my lease but I really need the cash so if you’re cool, we’ll make it work. Amenities: storage closet, key.
