Historically, the San Diego Padres are sent on a road trip during the weekend of Comic-Con so their stadium, Petco Park, can be used for special events and activations and to avoid overwhelming crowds in downtown San Diego. We chatted with some Padres players, asking how they felt about being unable to attend the convention.
“We’re going to Miami… Way better than some nerd shit.” – Jake Cronenworth
“Still waiting for the Pokémon deal, Nintendo.” – Jackson Azumarill
“What? Come again?” – Luis Rengifo
“This is actually my last season. I’m going to retire so I can go every year.” – Manny Machado
When asked about Fernando Tatis Jr., manager Craig Stammen said “Well, he just got put on the 10-day injured list. I don’t know exactly what’s wrong, but I heard he’s looking pretty green so that can’t be good.”

On Thursday, photos of a Yoda cosplayer went viral on social media due to his resemblance to Tatis.
We showed this picture of the cosplayer to Stammen at the presser following the Braves game in Atlanta, to which he responded “Nah. Definitely not him. Looks nothing alike.”
